Graduation and Curriculum Requirements

To be able to get a psychology major from AGU, following graduation (Gr) and curriculum (C) requirements must meet.

  • Gr1. Students have to complete all courses in the program curriculum with a minimum GPA of 2.00.
  • Gr2. ‘Orientation I: University Life & Scientific World’, ‘Orientation II: Professional Development’, and ‘Ethics in Psychology’ are the courses that every student must take.
  • Gr3. From each of the fundamental clusters, at least one PSYF-coded course must be taken.
  • Gr4. At least two laboratory courses must be taken, with at least one of them from the PSYL XXX coded courses.
  • Gr5. At least two departmental seminar courses (PSYS XXX) must be taken. In order to register to a departmental seminar course without taking the related fundamental cluster’s lecture course, approvals should be taken from the lecturer of this seminar course and the program advisor in order.
  • Gr6. At least 3 courses from the cognate courses category must be taken (student can select any programmes providing that the Department of Psychology approves).
  • Gr7. One of the compulsory labs might be taken from the following programs upon the Department of Psychology approval: ARCH, ECON, MBG, BENG, ME, BA, EDU, FLE, or POLS .
  • Gr8. If two Capstone courses are successfully completed, the student will get Hons. degree.

  • C1. ‘Essential Topics in Psychology I’ & ‘II’, ‘Research Methods in Psychology’, and ‘Statistics for Psychology’ are prerequisite courses for all of the other PSY+ courses
  • C2. Being registered in or successfully pass ‘Essential Topics in Psychology I’ is a prerequisite to take both ‘Essential Topics in Psychology II’, ‘Research Methods in Psychology’, and ‘Statistics for Psychology’.    
  • C3. The PSYL XXX laboratory course involved in a particular fundamental cluster cannot be taken if the related lecture course of this cluster has not already been taken.
  • C4. To take the ‘Independent Study’ (PSYI 403) course, students must officially apply to the Department no earlier than their 3rd year in the psychology program. Also, at least one PSYL course must have already been passed successfully. 
  • C5.The elective courses of ‘Independent Study (PSYI 403)’, ‘Internship in Psychology (PSYI 404)’, and ‘Erasmus Internship (PSYI 405)’ are pass/fail (S/U) courses, they all have 5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) and ‘1’ applied credits. The implementation principles of these courses are available on the Department’s website.   
  • C6. ‘PSYP 401: Capstone Project I’& ‘PSYP402: Capstone Project II’ are elective courses. They have 4 credits and 10 ECTS credits. The capstone projects can be run on a topic that is related to the course in any of the fundamental clusters’ course that was successfully passed. Acceptance of the students is based on the approval of the staff member who runs the course. The implementation principles of these courses are available on the Department’s website.
  • C7. The students must take at least 31 ECTS credits from amongst the PSYX coded courses besides those already defined in the curriculum and summing up to 109 ECTS. Therefore, the total ECTS credits that a student takes from among the PSY-coded courses must be at least 140.     
  • C8. At least 3 (15 ECTS) non-departmental courses must be taken.
